Clemson Energy Innovation Center
At Clemson University's Energy Innovation Center in North Charleston, SC, I joined a team engaged with advancing the future of clean energy generation and transmission. Using industry-standard wind turbine simulation models, I conducted load analyses through scenario testing to study the gearboxes and generators within turbine nacelles. Additionally, I learned the principles and tools, such as MATLAB's Simulink, necessary to apply control theory to optimize renewable energy systems.
Deliverables:
I simulated the loads experienced by the generator and gearbox of a wind turbine under different weather scenarios. Using a Simpack model of a 5MW turbine, I measured the forces and torques that were applied and summarized my findings in a report to the Director of Test Operations, Dr. Amin Bibo.
